Traditions

I'm back!

I took a month long hiatus from the world of blogging to concentrate on the holidays. Which were crazy, hectic, and wonderful! In case you're kidless and reading this... holidays are WAY more fun when kids enter the picture. I can't wait until we have kids that understand what's going on! I made a list of traditions I'd like to start with our little family. Some are carried on from traditions I grew up with, some are things I learned of at A Christmas Gathering. If you've never heard of A Christmas Gathering... it is incredible!!

The traditions we did and/or will do, once I have participants that understand are:

  • Decorate the Christmas tree on the weekend after Thanksgiving with Christmas music playing in the background-- this is what we always did growing up... we listened to an Anne Murray and Gene Autry cassette tape. I think it is NUTS that Jake will growing up knowing cassettes the way I know 8-tracks... before my time.
  • Christmas Eve service
  • Christmas Eve pj's
  • Reading "Twas the Night Before Christmas" before bed on Christmas Eve
  • Birthday cake for Jesus
  • Elf on a shelf (SO cute and can't believe I've never heard of him until this year!!)
  • Read Luke 2 before opening presents
  • Advent calendar
Call me crazy, but these are the ones I really wanna try to do. Probably like half of them will stick. But I'd like to think they'll all eventually be our traditions!

Anyway, I do have updates... my new J-O-B, diapering, crazy health issues, Jake's first birthday, the list could go on and on. I will get to them in the following days.

In the meantime, I leave you with this hilarious video of Derick "getting" Jake. So cute. Watch how he looks back at me... hilarious little guy.

Great post--and can't wait to hear more about all of your other updates!

We do many of those traditions as well---tree up after T-giving, we try do Christmas pj's as a St. Nick's gift (Dec 6), Elf on the Shelf (this is our 2nd year for this and he LOVED IT!), and we also do an Advent calendar and Advent wreath to prepare for Christmas! I like your reading Luke 2...might do that next year!
