The announcement!! Wait for it, wait for it... Jake pee-peed in the potty for the first time yesterday!! Wooooo-hoo!!! Trust me, I know it will be a long while before we are potty trained, but we certainly made the first step today!! He then proceeded to pee on his bedroom floor too. The joys of learning to potty train a boy, I suppose. He likes to squat and watch the stream. Little weirdo. Sometimes, having a boy is just downright hilarious. I say that now, anyway.
Betchya thought that was going to be a much different announcement, didn't ya?! Yeah, well,
In other news, we are trying to drop a nap, sort of. We are testing it out. In order to do this, I have to allow many hours of television, unfortunately, because if I don't, that will of his that I was referring to earlier... well, it gets OUT of control when he's tired. :) We have branched out from Yo Gabba Gabba, not by his choice, but mostly for my sanity. I can only take so much of DJ Lance Rock. ;) He will watch Sesame Street now. I feel like a terrible parent because he'll bring me the remote and say, "hold still!!!". "Hold Still" is a song from Yo Gabba Gabba that he loves. :-/ We tried the one nap approach yesterday and it did not go as well as I'd hoped. He did well the first half of the day, great at lunch, great nap-slept 3.5 hours... but the rest of the day after that was a nightmare. He was a fit-throwing maniac. We went out to have ice cream and he was so embarrassing. Ah, the perks of toddler-hood.
Despite the tantrum throwing part, I absolutely love this stage that he is at right now, I really do. I always couldn't wait for the day that he wanted to read a book with me. And by reading a book, I don't mean me getting a book and making him sit in my lap while I read to him. I mean when he would seek out a book, himself, bring it to me, plop down in my lap, and have me read it to him. I LOVE it. I also couldn't wait till he said my name and meant it. Since he was just a wee crawler baby, he's said "mama" and "dada" amongst many other things, but now he's saying these names (along with lots others) and meaning them. He addresses us with our names. He requests us with our names. We FaceTime my dad quite often and he'll bring me my phone and say, "Bop! Bop!" when he wants to call his Pop. He can even identify our animals with their names. He's said Minnie's name for a while, but just recently he started calling Quincy "Bency". It is hilarious! So cute. He also knows the name of one of Derick's mom's dogs. Her name is Sissy and he can pick her out in a picture and say, "Sissy!"
These things are trivial in the grand scheme of things, but this is our day-to-day excitement!!
Happy Tuesday, friends!
